EDP Group and SIAD’s IGAT to build largest solar-and-storage plant in Italy | Italy Gas News

Italian chemicals company IGAT and the utility EDP Energia Italia are to build a distributed generation photovoltaic solar plant. It is the largest EDP project in Italy to be integrated with a storage system.

The solar plant will be installed at IGAT’s industrial site in the province of Caserta, with total capacity of 2.5MWp, boosting the company’s flexibility in energy management and enhancing its decarbonisation.

IGAT, part of the SIAD Group, specialises in the production of oxygen, nitrogen, and argon. It recently secured funding through Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) for a green hydrogen initiative, which will produce green hydrogen through an electrolyser powered by EDP’s photovoltaic plant.

The solar plant, expected to become operational this year, will consist of more than 3,400 photovoltaic panels and will generate about 3.5GWh of energy per year.
