Outgoing COP President calls for “delivery not debate” at opening of Brazil summit | events


COP30 has opened in Brazil with calls for “delivery not debate” to accelerate decarbonisation and tackle climate change.

Outgoing COP 29 President Mukhtar Babayev made the comments during the opening ceremony at Belém at the start of the 11-day global conference, which has implementation as its core theme.

“We are now entering the first full implementation of the Paris Agreement – this is the new era,” he said.

During his opening speech he held aloft ‘invoices for donors’ to ensure they keep to previous commitments. “The deadline is almost upon us, so developed countries must use every moment to close the gap.”
