Wylfa in North Wales will host the UK’s first small modular rector (SMR), 10 years after its nuclear plant closed.
The £2.5bn project will be built by publicly-owned Great British Energy (under Great British Energy-Nuclear) and designed by Rolls-Royce SMR.
Initially three SMR units will be developed, but Great British Energy-Nuclear believes the site could potentially host up to eight. Each Rolls-Royce SMR will generate 470 megawatts of low carbon energy.
