Mitsubishi Power completes landmark hydrogen usage project in Egypt | Hydrogen

Power techs company Mitsubishi Power has completed a project that uses hydrogen as a fuel in an industrial boiler. According to the company, it is the first such project in both Egypt and the wider Middle East and Africa region. Announced in 2022, the project involved Mitsubishi Power designing, supplying, and installing systems to convert a 100 tonne-per-hour boiler from heavy fuel oil and natural gas to 100% hydrogen at the Alexandria National Refining and Petrochemicals Company (ANRPC). The hydrogen fuel is recovered as a by-product from process gases used in chemical or refining units (like catalytic reformers or steam crackers) that contain high levels of hydrogen mixed with other gases.
