Linde reports 7% rise in annual operating profit | Year-end financials

Linde overcame a challenging trading environment and pointed to the ‘resilency of its model’ after posting a full-year operating profit of $9.7bn in 2024, up 7% on 2023. It rounded off the year strongly with Q4 operating profit of $2.5bn, up 9% annually, boosted by high prices and productivity initiatives across all segments. Operating cashflow for the year totalled $9.4bn although full year sales were flat however, at $33bn. Sanjiv Lamba, CEO, said it made “significant progress” in its clean energy strategy – sourcing more than 40% of global electricity from low-carbon sources – and signed its largest ever product agreement, supporting the $10bn project backlog which will contribute to earnings “for years to come”. … to continue reading this article and more, please login, register for free, or consider subscribing to gasworld Source link

Analysis: Air Products and its clean hydrogen pipeline | overarching clean hydrogen production project investment lies

The fall-out from the ousting of Seifi Ghasemi as CEO of Air Products throws up many questions about the future priorities of the refreshed leadership team. One key one lies with clean hydrogen. Today Air Products has a clean hydrogen production target more than double that of its closest competitors by 2033. So any strategic shift under Air Products’ new CEO, Eduardo Menezes, could reshape the company’s role in the hydrogen market. Data from GWGI indicate that if Menezes opts for a strategic shift, moving away from the company’s clean hydrogen pipeline will be a significant challenge. After being appointed on Tuesday (4 February), Menezes will take over with a remit to address investor concerns on CAPEX and on Air Products’ $15bn clean project pipeline – including its blue and green hydrogen developments. … to… Read More »Analysis: Air Products and its clean hydrogen pipeline | overarching clean hydrogen production project investment lies

CEO switch: How will Air Products shift its strategy? | Air Products News

The appointment of former Linde executive Eduardo Menezes as Air Products’ new CEO marks a significant turning point for the industrial gas giant – and it is one that could reshape its approach to clean hydrogen, where it has taken a lead with key projects like NEOM in Saudi Arabia. Menezes’ move into the top spot follows an investor-driven boardroom shake-up led by activist investor Mantle Ridge, which played a role in ousting longtime boss Seifi Ghasemi amid concerns over CAPEX and the company’s $15bn clean hydrogen pipeline. A strategic recalibration? Under Ghasemi, Air Products had made bold moves to make it one of the most aggressive backers of clean hydrogen – investing in some of the world’s largest production projects, including the 2.2GW NEOM green hydrogen plant. … to continue reading you must be… Read More »CEO switch: How will Air Products shift its strategy? | Air Products News

First for hydrogen as EU issues €1.25bn to energy projects

The European Commission will grant almost €1.25bn ($1.3bn) in funding through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) to a raft of energy initiatives including hydrogen and carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) projects. The bulk of funding (€750m or $770m) will go towards eight electricity grid projects such as the Bornholm Energy island project which involves building an underwater power cable to connect Denmark and Germany. It will also help to bring in power from offshore wind farms, with the ability to handle up to three gigawatts of wind energy. Over €250m ($257m) is earmarked for 21 hydrogen development projects including BarMar-H2med between Spain and France, the backbone projects in Italy, Portugal and Spain and the hydrogen corridors and routes in the Baltic region. Another €250m ($257m) will be used to build three projects and fund… Read More »First for hydrogen as EU issues €1.25bn to energy projects

Evonik, VoltH2 to build 50MW electrolyser in Delfzijl for hydrogen peroxide production | Hydrogen

German chemicals firm Evonik has signed a term sheet with hydrogen specialist VoltH2 to build a 50MW electrolyser at the Delfzijl chemical park in the Netherlands. The electrolyser will supply Evonik’s hydrogen peroxide plant, once operational in 2027. Until then, Evonik will continue to use onsite fossil-based hydrogen for hydrogen peroxide production. Evonik Peroxide Netherlands Managing Director, Peter Metten, said the company hopes to switch its production over entirely to renewable sources. Specifically, the company has committed to a 25% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions between 2021 and 2030, and Net Zero emissions by 2050. Hydrogen peroxide is widely used as a bleaching agent, disinfectant and oxidising agent. It is mainly produced by the anthraquinone process, which involves reacting hydrogen and oxygen in a catalytic process. André Jurres, founder and Managing Director… Read More »Evonik, VoltH2 to build 50MW electrolyser in Delfzijl for hydrogen peroxide production | Hydrogen

Luxcara and GreenH green hydrogen project reaches FID in Norway | Hydrogen

A major green hydrogen project in Norway involving Luxcara and GreenH has reached final investment decision (FID). The Bodø Hydrogen Project, located at Langstranda in Bodø municipality, will in phase 1 have an electrolyser capacity of 20 MW and an annual production capacity of up to 3,100 tonnes of green hydrogen. In phase 2, an additional 10 MW will potentially be installed, raising annual production capacity to about 4,800 tonnes. Luxcara and GreenH recently secured NOK129m (c.€11m) in funding from Enova, a state enterprise owned by the Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment, for the Bodø project in December 2024, enabling them to now move to FID. Preparatory work on site is already underway and commercial operations are expected in 2026. … to continue reading this article and more, please login, register for free, or… Read More »Luxcara and GreenH green hydrogen project reaches FID in Norway | Hydrogen

US urged to take long-term view on hydrogen | Hydrogen

The US is well positioned for hydrogen growth but the new administration should be mindful of its long-term potential and solutions will evolve over decades, according to Austin Knight, Vice-President of Hydrogen at Chevron New Energies. Speaking on the Energy Gang podcast, he said, “Hydrogen is happening, we have cases to show what’s real. We’re actively developing the HyVelocity Hub on the Gulf Coast, integrating natural gas value chains and carbon capture, which customers around the world are demanding. We have to remember all this is long term and these solutions are going to play out over decades – and there will be many more administrations.” Knight highlighted three main sectors where hydrogen beats the alternatives. “Firstly, heavy industry for the high heat applications, which are typically using natural gas and refining, and other high heat requirements;… Read More »US urged to take long-term view on hydrogen | Hydrogen

ExxonMobil signs HOA with Trammo for up to 500,000 tonnes of Baytown ammonia | Ammonia

ExxonMobil could supply France’s Trammo with 300,000 to 500,000 tonnes of low-carbon ammonia per year from its planned Baytown hydrogen facility in Texas. A Heads of Agreement (HOA) has been signed to explore the potential off-take of ammonia. Trammo plans to sell the product in Europe and worldwide for fertiliser production and other industrial applications. The Baytown facility is believed to be the largest of its type. Once in operation, it will produce up to one billion cubic feet of low-carbon hydrogen daily and more than one million tonnes of low-carbon ammonia per annum.
