Pathways to Performance & Sustainability: APAC Conference preview | South Pacific

The Asia-Pacific (APAC) region is in the midst of its own twin transition, vigorously pursuing a path of increasing economic growth and trade influence on one hand while simultaneously establishing a position of decarbonisation leadership on the other. The growing question is, how sustainable are these intertwined directions of travel – and where is the intersection of challenge and opportunity? There exists a balancing act to be struck between traditional fossil-powered growth, the decarbonisation of that pathway, and the development of not only the fuels of the future but the architecture to distribute those fuels beyond borders. … to continue reading this article and more, please login, register for free, or consider subscribing to gasworld You’ve reached your weekly limit to access free articles! COP30: High stakes for energy and climate on final day

Countries are engaged in last-minute negotiations to finalise a global agreement, primarily focusing on the future of fossil fuels and climate finance. The primary expected outcome is the adoption of the final “Belém Political Package” of decisions by consensus during the closing plenaries scheduled for the evening. The most contentious issue is the inclusion of a clear roadmap to transition away from fossil fuels. The latest draft texts from the Brazilian Presidency have been criticised for omitting any mention of a fossil fuel transition roadmap, leading to strong opposition from many nations. Major oil and gas consumers like China, India, and Saudi Arabia have reportedly resisted strong language on phasing out fossil fuels. But progress has been made, and around 83 countries have supported the call to end them. Climate advocates believe stricter measures are inevitable after COP28 closed with… Read More »COP30: High stakes for energy and climate on final day

ITM Power wins 710MW German electrolyser contracts

German engineering and project development company Stablegrid Group has chosen ITM Power to supply electrolyser capacity totalling 710 megawatts for two energy infrastructure projects. In the first project in Rüstringen, the UK electrolyser firm will supply a 30MW green hydrogen production plant based on Neptune V containerised electrolysers, and 680MW indoor electrolyser capacity is planned for the second one. They will operate exclusively for grid balancing and stabilising the power system, using underground caverns as hydrogen storage facilities to absorb discrepancies between electricity supply and hydrogen consumption. Final investment decision for the projects is expected in January 2026 and 2028 respectively. … to continue reading this article and more, please login, register for free, or consider subscribing to gasworld You’ve reached your weekly limit to access free articles!
