Air Products scraps Immingham green hydrogen project in UK | Air Products News

Air Products has scrapped plans to build a large-scale green hydrogen import and production project in the Port of Immingham, UK, blaming a “lack of commitment” by ministers, according to reports. The Immingham Green Energy Terminal, developed with Associated British Ports (ABP), was set to import green hydrogen from Air Products’ 2.2GW Neom project, and produce its own volumes from a 300MW plant. Air Products suggested that the new plant would create 1,400 jobs and over £4.5bn in economic value in the Humber region. The UK Department for Transport approved the plans earlier this year; however, now the US industrial gas major claims that ministers have not offered enough support for the development. … to continue reading this article and more, please login, register for free, or consider subscribing to gasworld You’ve reached your weekly… Read More »Air Products scraps Immingham green hydrogen project in UK | Air Products News

Russia LNG checks to rise as EU gets tough | Europe

The European Commission has set out legislation to phase out Russian gas by the end of 2027 and will step up tracing and monitoring to minimise circumvention with liquefied natural gas (LNG). While Europe recently introduced its 18th package of sanctions, EU imports of Russian LNG rose 18% to 24.2 bcm last year. Dan Jørgensen, Commissioner for Energy and Housing, said,“Importers will have to provide customs authorities with information concerning the origin of the gas, the identity of the supplier, as well as entry and delivery points for supplies of LNG.” Given the essential role that LNG is expected to play in securing alternative energy supplies in Europe, LNG terminal services for customers from Russia or controlled by Russian undertakings will be also prohibited from 1 January 2026. … to continue reading this article and more,… Read More »Russia LNG checks to rise as EU gets tough | Europe

EDP Group and SIAD’s IGAT to build largest solar-and-storage plant in Italy | Italy Gas News

Italian chemicals company IGAT and the utility EDP Energia Italia are to build a distributed generation photovoltaic solar plant. It is the largest EDP project in Italy to be integrated with a storage system. The solar plant will be installed at IGAT’s industrial site in the province of Caserta, with total capacity of 2.5MWp, boosting the company’s flexibility in energy management and enhancing its decarbonisation. IGAT, part of the SIAD Group, specialises in the production of oxygen, nitrogen, and argon. It recently secured funding through Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) for a green hydrogen initiative, which will produce green hydrogen through an electrolyser powered by EDP’s photovoltaic plant. The solar plant, expected to become operational this year, will consist of more than 3,400 photovoltaic panels and will generate about 3.5GWh of energy per… Read More »EDP Group and SIAD’s IGAT to build largest solar-and-storage plant in Italy | Italy Gas News

Georgia gas plant successfully trials 50% hydrogen blend | Hydrogen

Utility company Georgia Power has successfully completed a trial using a 50% hydrogen blend to operate a natural gas turbine at its McDonough-Atkinson plant in Georgia. Japan’s Mitsubishi Power completed the hydrogen blending on one M501GAC gas turbine unit, with an approximate output of 283MW. The pair have said the effort is the largest test of its kind to date. The 50% blend provides a 22% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions compared with 100% natural gas. The emissions savings are due to hydrogen’s low volumetric density, meaning more gas needs to be used to produce the same power. … to continue reading this article and more, please login, register for free, or consider subscribing to gasworld You’ve reached your weekly limit to access free articles! Future of Energy event: clean energy weighs its prospects | famous ccs incentive globally

Policy and market uncertainty continues to cast a shadow over the hydrogen, CCUS and biomethane sectors – and a dedicated session at the Gas, LNG and Future of Energy conference in London explored the latest developments. Mhairidh Evans, Vice-President Global Head of CCUS Research at analyst group Wood Mackenzie, said, “It looks like the 45Q tax credit, probably the most famous CCS incentive globally, will stay, but almost $4bn of funding for projects has been pulled. So what we’re seeing is players in the US and Canada, to some extent, ‘tap the brakes’ on their investment decisions.” She said the slowdown is expected to last “for a good year yet”. Nonetheless, CCUS has a “pretty decent role to play” in addressing Scope 1 emissions for gas production and processing and that also extends to enabling… Read More »Future of Energy event: clean energy weighs its prospects | famous ccs incentive globally

India refineries to invest $23bn in green hydrogen build-out | Hydrogen

Indian refineries are set to invest ₹2 trillion ($23bn) in green hydrogen projects over the next few years, according to the Independent Commodity Intelligence Services (ICIS), marking one of the world’s most ambitious national pushes for hydrogen decarbonisation. The plans include tenders for 42,000 tonnes per year of green hydrogen production across domestic oil refineries, recently confirmed by India’s Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri. “These tenders have been floated by the refineries while 128 more will be issued by state-owned refineries based on the outcome of those tenders,” he said on social media platform X. To date, four green hydrogen pilot or demonstration plants have been commissioned by Indian Oil Corp (IOC), GAIL India, Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum, with a further nine under construction. IOC is developing a 10,000 tonne… Read More »India refineries to invest $23bn in green hydrogen build-out | Hydrogen

Future of Energy event: Switching from natural gas to hydrogen ‘unrealistic,’ says Uniper CEO | Hydrogen

The notion that the energy market can switch from natural gas to green hydrogen is “completely unrealistic,” according to Uniper CEO Michael Lewis. Speaking at the Gas, LNG and Future of Energy conference in London, he said, “The cost of green hydrogen is extremely expensive, around eight to 10 times the cost of natural gas. So that’s not an option if we want to keep Europe as an industrial powerhouse.” He described the current market changes as a “necessary recalibration”. Echoing sentiments throughout the two-day conference, Lewis said natural gas has huge advantages as it is abundant, affordable and flexible. He went on to describe the Iberian blackout, which happened earlier this year, as a “good wake up call” as it underlined the importance of supply security, and expressed challenges with electricity prices in Germany,… Read More »Future of Energy event: Switching from natural gas to hydrogen ‘unrealistic,’ says Uniper CEO | Hydrogen

UK backs Acorn and Viking CCS projects in Spending Review | CCS

The UK Government has formally announced its backing for two major carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects that could collectively capture and store over 15 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year by 2030. Announced today as part of the UK Spending Review, the Acorn CCS project in Aberdeenshire and the Viking project in Humberside have been selected to move forward under the government’s Track-2 carbon capture cluster process. The decision confirms formal backing and opens the door to final negotiations on funding terms and deployment timelines, with £9.4bn allocated to support carbon capture, utilisation and storage and hydrogen projects over the coming years. “We have always been clear that we support the Acorn project … we know what an important proposal it is,” said Energy Minister Sarah Jones. … to continue reading this article… Read More »UK backs Acorn and Viking CCS projects in Spending Review | CCS
