Luxcara and GreenH green hydrogen project reaches FID in Norway | Hydrogen

A major green hydrogen project in Norway involving Luxcara and GreenH has reached final investment decision (FID). The Bodø Hydrogen Project, located at Langstranda in Bodø municipality, will in phase 1 have an electrolyser capacity of 20 MW and an annual production capacity of up to 3,100 tonnes of green hydrogen. In phase 2, an additional 10 MW will potentially be installed, raising annual production capacity to about 4,800 tonnes. Luxcara and GreenH recently secured NOK129m (c.€11m) in funding from Enova, a state enterprise owned by the Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment, for the Bodø project in December 2024, enabling them to now move to FID. Preparatory work on site is already underway and commercial operations are expected in 2026. … to continue reading this article and more, please login, register for free, or… Read More »Luxcara and GreenH green hydrogen project reaches FID in Norway | Hydrogen

US urged to take long-term view on hydrogen | Hydrogen

The US is well positioned for hydrogen growth but the new administration should be mindful of its long-term potential and solutions will evolve over decades, according to Austin Knight, Vice-President of Hydrogen at Chevron New Energies. Speaking on the Energy Gang podcast, he said, “Hydrogen is happening, we have cases to show what’s real. We’re actively developing the HyVelocity Hub on the Gulf Coast, integrating natural gas value chains and carbon capture, which customers around the world are demanding. We have to remember all this is long term and these solutions are going to play out over decades – and there will be many more administrations.” Knight highlighted three main sectors where hydrogen beats the alternatives. “Firstly, heavy industry for the high heat applications, which are typically using natural gas and refining, and other high heat requirements;… Read More »US urged to take long-term view on hydrogen | Hydrogen

New ammonia body launches certification scheme | Ammonia

Ammonia Europe wants to boost collaboration and transparency Ammonia Europe wants to boost collaboration and transparency New business association Ammonia Europe has launched a voluntary certification scheme which aims to provide transparency to European customers on the carbon footprint of their ammonia purchases. An Ammonia Certificate is issued for each tonne of ammonia with a product attribute declaration of the footprint and energy origin, such as hydrogen from electrolysis, biomethane or methane. It uses a mass balance chain-of-custody system with optional ‘book and claim’ in the single market, and pilot audits at Fertiberia and Yara renewable ammonia plants. With a decarbonised ammonia system targeted for 2050, the new body aims to foster collaboration across the continent’s value chain and unlock the potential of ammonia for climate neutrality. Eleven founding members are listed on its website,… Read More »New ammonia body launches certification scheme | Ammonia

A new era for LNG under Trump – but at what cost? | LNG

As Europe turns its back on Russian gas, the US is stepping up to meet the challenge, with Trump’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) export policies set to unlock a new era of energy dominance. This is to be driven by soaring EU demand, Trump’s promise to lift the moratorium and the US’s record-breaking LNG output growth in 2025.  Having declared an ‘energy emergency’, the newly minted US President banned offshore wind and withdrew the US from the Paris Agreement – a move he previously took during his first term in office. This shift in priorities signals a stark reversal for clean energy, which now finds itself the sacrificial lamb in Trump’s aggressive push to favour LNG. Just three days into the job, the US President lifted permits on two LNG plants in Louisiana, which “were… Read More »A new era for LNG under Trump – but at what cost? | LNG

Trump talks tough on LNG supplies, US-KSA deal and Europe  | LNG

US President Trump wants rapid approvals to speed up energy growth US President Trump wants rapid approvals to speed up energy growth New US President Donald Trump gave guarantees on the security of future LNG supplies to Europe during a characteristically straight-talking video address at Davos this afternoon. Despite only being three days into the job, his wide-ranging 45-minute presentation reminded delegates and the world listening in online of his bold leadership style and desire to act decisively, following on from the slew of executive orders that were signed on the first day. Responding to a question from Patrick Pouyanne, Chairman of TotalEnergies, the fourth largest oil and gas company, he said, “If you make a deal, we make a deal – you get it,” he said. Trump went on to talk about two plants… Read More »Trump talks tough on LNG supplies, US-KSA deal and Europe  | LNG

Global Energy Transition Forum ’to convert targets into concrete projects’

Announcing the Forum’s launch at Davos, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said, “The Forum is all about connecting the dots, so we can learn from each other and exchange best practices, and support projects that jump start new clean energy industries and scale up clean energy globally.” While Europe has made significant strides, with 50% of its electricity now coming from reneawbles, the global picture is uneven. Africa, despite being rich in solar and natural resources, has attracted only 2% of global clean tech investment and 600 million people still lack access to electricity. President Von der Leyen said the Forum would support “flagship initiatives” and strive to champion “smarter financing and derisking tools” to help projects reach FID. “We have to sustain the momentum of our historic global energy agreement and turn… Read More »Global Energy Transition Forum ’to convert targets into concrete projects’

Europe Clean Industrial Deal to tackle permitting red tape | Europe – East

Europe wants to cut red tape and improve capital flows Europe wants to cut red tape and improve capital flows The European Commission will launch the Clean Industrial Deal in February in a bid to tackle permitting delays and red tape among hard-to-abate and new tech industries. Speaking at Davos, Wopke Hoekstra, Commissioner for Climate, Net Zero and Clean Growth, European Commission, said a major challenge is bridging climate action with competitiveness. “One of the key things we need to do is further enhance our competitiveness and make sure that decarbonisation is a  growth strategy,” he said. “So that means focusing on two sectors. Firstly, heavy industry and difficult-to-abate, which is pivotal to the success of our continent, and as important, are the ‘new kids on the block’, the tech companies that have huge demand and… Read More »Europe Clean Industrial Deal to tackle permitting red tape | Europe – East

Clean energy job demand points to future tech boom

But the future may be brighter than we think, delegates attending the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos heard today. “You have people leaving landing rockets and saying ‘I want to go work in energy,’” said Bob Mumgaard, Co-Founder and CEO, Commonweatlh Fusion Systems, in a panel on ‘Deploying Advanced Energy Tech faster’. “You look at portfolios, they are full of people bringing skills from other fields – that’s very exciting. The energy sector is actually the hardest to get into, so I think we’re going to see a pipeline fill, and in around 10 years from now, a whole bunch of technologies to pick from.” He said sectors such as fusion provide a completely new technological stack and business model. Hans Kobler, CEO and Founding Partner, Energy Impact Partners, agreed that there is… Read More »Clean energy job demand points to future tech boom
