EU backs hydrogen infrastructure projects with over €250 million

To help decarbonize the European Union (EU) industry, the European Commission will allocate over €250 million in grants from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) to 21 hydrogen infrastructure development studies. Evonik, VoltH2 to build 50MW electrolyser in Delfzijl for hydrogen peroxide production | Hydrogen

German chemicals firm Evonik has signed a term sheet with hydrogen specialist VoltH2 to build a 50MW electrolyser at the Delfzijl chemical park in the Netherlands. The electrolyser will supply Evonik’s hydrogen peroxide plant, once operational in 2027. Until then, Evonik will continue to use onsite fossil-based hydrogen for hydrogen peroxide production. Evonik Peroxide Netherlands Managing Director, Peter Metten, said the company hopes to switch its production over entirely to renewable sources. Specifically, the company has committed to a 25% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions between 2021 and 2030, and Net Zero emissions by 2050. Hydrogen peroxide is widely used as a bleaching agent, disinfectant and oxidising agent.
