Air Liquide secures €110m for renewable hydrogen project in Antwerp

Air Liquide has secured a €110m ($116m) grant from the European Innovation Fund to support its ENHANCE project, an initiative aimed at producing and distributing low-carbon and renewable hydrogen from ammonia in the port of Antwerp-Bruges, Belgium. The project involves plans to build a large-scale ammonia cracking plant and a hydrogen liquefier, aiming to produce hydrogen on an industrial scale using ammonia as a feedstock. The ENHANCE project will retrofit an existing hydrogen production unit in Antwerp-Bruges to use renewable ammonia instead of natural gas, significantly reducing carbon emissions. By leveraging ammonia as a feedstock, the facility is expected to cut carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions by more than 300,000 tonnes annually. The hydrogen produced will cater to hard-to-decarbonise sectors such as refineries, chemicals, heavy-duty road transport, maritime shipping and aviation. “This project would capitalise on… Read More »Air Liquide secures €110m for renewable hydrogen project in Antwerp

UK East Coast Cluster CCS projects receive go ahead | CCS

Costain, bp and Equinor have received confirmation to proceed to the execution phase for two East Coast Cluster projects on Teesside. Construction is expected to commence from mid-2025, with start-up targeted for 2028. Energy Secretary Ed Miliband said the investment launches a new era for clean energy in Britain, boosting energy security, backing industries, and supporting thousands of ‘highly skilled jobs’ in Teesside and the North East. It follows the government’s decision in October to invest £22bn in hydrogen and carbon capture and storage (CCS) in the next 25 years (click here). Costain’s delivery partner role will see it deliver and manage the engineering, procurement and construction (EPCm) of the Northern Endurance Partnership’s (NEP) onshore CO2 gathering system on Teesside, and associated utilities for Net Zero Teesside Power (NZT Power). It is one of nine EPC… Read More »UK East Coast Cluster CCS projects receive go ahead | CCS
