Beaumont facility produces first ammonia | Ammonia

The Beaumont New Ammonia facility in Texas has started ammonia production. OCI Global will now progress the remaining operational preparedness and testing requirements ahead of handover to Woodside Energy, which is expected in early 2026. OCI sold its equity interests in the project to Woodside for $2.35bn in August 2024. OCI will continue to manage the commissioning and start-up of the facility until the project is fully staffed and operational, at which point it will handover to Woodside. Blue ammonia production, incorporating carbon capture and storage technology, is targeted to start in the second half of 2026. The facility, a collaboration between OCI and Linde, is targeting 1.1 million metric tonnes per annum of blue ammonia in its first phase. The ammonia will be used in various hard-to-abate sectors such as agriculture, power generation and… Read More »Beaumont facility produces first ammonia | Ammonia

Global energy transition drags its feet as oil & gas reign over energy mix

Against the backdrop of rising greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, energy security and financial prudence are running the investment policy show, putting the transition to low-carbon and green sources of supply on the back burner, as fossil fuels dominate the energy mix, according to GlobalData, an intelligence and productivity platform. Downturn in high-impact exploration: Is revival of oil & gas drilling appetite on the cards?

Given that the number of players engaged in high-impact (HI) oil and gas exploration operations has been cut in half since 2014, Westwood Global Energy, an energy market research and consultancy firm, has warned about the uncertainty surrounding new hydrocarbon search attempts, while emphasizing the need for a new wave of exploration firms to be created and for existing companies to return to drilling activities, if exploration endeavors are to increase in the future. Hydrogen-ready plants key to Singapore’s long-term decarbonisation | Hydrogen

Diversified LNG imports, strategic storage, and hydrogen-ready repowering requirements will raise Singapore’s gas-based capacity from around 10.38GW in 2024 to approximately 14.82GW by 2035, according to GlobalData research. Despite solar PV spearheading decarbonisation in the city state, its National Hydrogen Strategy positions hydrogen as a longer-term decarbonisation option, with hydrogen-compatible gas plants and pilot projects designed to preserve optionality beyond 2035. Mohammed Ziauddin, Power Analyst at GlobalData, said Singapore’s clean energy strategy reflects the constraints of a dense, import-dependent system. “Solar PV is being scaled within physical limits through targeted policy mechanisms and urban deployment models, while parallel investment in storage, gas modernisation, and regional interconnections support reliability and system balance,” he said. Singapore’s power system is shaped by long-standing structural constraints related to land availability, limited domestic energy resources, and rising electricity demand from… Read More »Hydrogen-ready plants key to Singapore’s long-term decarbonisation | Hydrogen

Investment shift from low carbon toward upstream to continue in 2026

After the portfolio recalibrations and restructuring marked the oil and gas industry’s landscape in 2025, Wood Mackenzie, an energy intelligence group, has outlined that the trend will continue in 2026, with oil and gas corporates expected to face “an even tougher strategic balancing act” this year.
