Nobel Prize in Chemistry awarded to trio for work on metal organic frameworks | Event’s News

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been awarded to Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson and Omar M. Yaghi for their work on metal organic frameworks (MOF). The three winners will share prize money of SK11m (£872,000). The laureates developed MOFs, a new type of molecular architecture which contain large cavities in which molecules can flow in and out. The prize was awarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm. Professor Kitagawa works at Kyoto University, Professor Richard Robson is at the University of Melbourne and Professor M. Yaghi is based at the University of California. Researchers have used them to harvest water from desert air, extract pollutants from water, capture carbon dioxide and store hydrogen. What makes MOFs special is they can be chemically tuned to suit specific applications, for example adsorption of target… Read More »Nobel Prize in Chemistry awarded to trio for work on metal organic frameworks | Event’s News

Air Liquide invests $50m to expand Texas hydrogen infrastructure | Hydrogen

Industrial gas major Air Liquide will invest $50m to upgrade existing hydrogen infrastructure as part of newly signed hydrogen supply deals with two US refiners. The investment will expand pipeline capacity and integrate new distribution systems to strengthen Air Liquide’s footprint in Texas, where it already operates pipeline infrastructure and its La Porte hydrogen facility. Air Liquide’s hydrogen pipeline network currently spans over 700km along the Gulf Coast, supplying major industrial hubs across Texas and Louisiana. The company’s Gulf Coast network is also connected to the world’s largest hydrogen cavern in Spindletop, Texas, which it has operated since 2017. Matthieu Giard, Group Executive Committee member, in charge of supervising operations in the Americas, said, “This strategic move reinforces our footprint in this … industrial basin and reflects our broader strategy to optimise hydrogen production and supply, leveraging… Read More »Air Liquide invests $50m to expand Texas hydrogen infrastructure | Hydrogen

Germany rolls out €6bn bid chance to decarbonise heavy industry | Decarbonisation News

The German government has launched the first stage of a bidding process for carbon dioxide contracts for difference (CfD), which will take place next year. According to the funding programme, €6bn will be made available to help heavy industries like steel, chemicals, cement, and glass switch to cleaner production methods that emit less CO2. The government will sign 15-year contracts with selected companies. These work like long-term guarantees that cover some of the extra costs that come from using greener technologies instead of traditional, more polluting ones. To decide who gets the money, Germany will hold a competitive auction in 2026. Companies will bid by saying how much funding they need per tonne of CO2 they will save. The projects that can cut CO2 most efficiently and cheaply will get priority. The funding could go… Read More »Germany rolls out €6bn bid chance to decarbonise heavy industry | Decarbonisation News
