Linde Lucknow site begins operations | India Gas News

Linde India has started commercial production at its new gas facility in Unnao, Lucknow, in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

The plant will support industrial and medical requirements, and raise storage, handling and distribution capabilities. Construction began in April 2022.

The opening is the latest in a line of developments in the fast-growing Indian market.

Last week the industrial gases major announced it is advancing plans for a new production plant in Dholera, Gujarat, to meet demand from India’s emerging semiconductor and electronics sector. The plant will produce oxygen, nitrogen and argon in undisclosed quantities to serve upcoming electronics projects regionally.

Linde’s other facilities in India include air separation units for Tata Steel in Odisha and a contract to supply industrial gases to the Panipat refinery in Haryana.

Linde, which recorded $33bn sales in 2024, recently reported second quarter operating profit of $2.35bn. Its Indian business accounts for around 3% of global sales.

According to gasworld Intelligence, Linde is the largest gas company in India with estimated revenues of $412.1m and a market share of 23.8%. The company operates 70 industrial gas production facilities across the country, four of which are dedicated to electronics manufacturing.

Forecast models from gasworld Intelligence predict India’s overall industrial gas market will grow between 7.5% and 8.2% annually between 2024 and 2029, reflecting wider investment trends in electronics and semiconductors.
