Japan stands at ‘inflection point’ for hydrogen: report | Hydrogen

Japan find itself at an inflection point for hydrogen, according to a World Economic Forum paper. Given its structural reliance on imported fuels and exposure to energy security and decarbonisation imperatives, hydrogen provides an industrial and strategic pathway. But progress is not without friction, it finds. Infrastructure remains incomplete across production, transport and end-use sectors, green hydrogen and its derivatives still entail cost premiums and long-term offtakes, essential to investment clarity, have not materialised at the scale required. That’s despite policy direction and mobilised funds thanks to the country’s updated Basic Hydrogen Strategy and Hydrogen Society Promotion Act. It still requires “coordinated, system-wide progress,” according to the report. … to continue reading this article and more, please login, register for free, or consider subscribing to gasworld You’ve reached your weekly limit to access free articles!… Read More »Japan stands at ‘inflection point’ for hydrogen: report | Hydrogen

OMV secures €123m for Austria green hydrogen project

The funding deal was signed by OMV and Austria Wirtschaftsservice – the promotional bank of the Austrian federal government. OMV is currently building the 140MW plant in Bruck an der Leitha – a town in eastern Austria. The project was previously assessed and recommended for funding by the European Hydrogen Bank. The plant is expected to produce up to 23,000 tonnes of green hydrogen using renewable energy from wind, solar, and hydropower, starting from the end of 2027. According to OMV, this could save up to 150,000 tonnes of carbon emissions per year and enable decarbonisation of the Schwechat refinery. “By generating green hydrogen locally, this plant with a 22km pipeline running directly to the OMV refinery in Schwechat will make a considerable contribution to our decarbonisation,” said Martijn van Koten, OMV Executive Vice President,… Read More »OMV secures €123m for Austria green hydrogen project

Uniper signs for 500,000 tonnes of Indian green ammonia

The first shipment is expected to happen as early as 2028 from AM Green Ammonia’s first one -million-tonne-per-annum plant – currently under construction in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. AM Green Ammonia is AM Green’s dedicated platform for producing green ammonia. The ammonia will be certified as a renewable fuel of non-biological origin, under European rules, and is designed to meet “stringent European compliance standards,” according to Anil Kumar Chalamalasetty, Founder of Greenko Group and AM Green. “Green ammonia stands out as one of the most promising solutions to decarbonise CO2-intensive production of chemicals, fertiliser and, through green hydrogen, also in refining,” said Michael Lewis, CEO of Uniper. The fuel offers the lowest CO2 avoidance costs compared with other renewable and low carbon molecules. This is due to a relatively mature production process that does not need… Read More »Uniper signs for 500,000 tonnes of Indian green ammonia
