EU and India reach major free trade agreement in response to global challenge | Finance

Europe has reached a free trade agreement with India, hailing it as “the mother of all deals” in its uniting of the world’s second- and fourth-largest economies. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the deal sends out a “strong message that cooperation is the best answer to global challenges”, as the US continues its combative tariffs policy. She added this deal will cut up to €4bn in annual tariffs for exporters of all sizes. In the energy sphere, she said it would set up EU-India Innovation Hubs and their best talents “will get to work to advance clean energy and frontier technologies”, while a startup partnership will also be launched. Working groups will be assigned to boost energy security and efficiency along with a task force on green hydrogen to foster cooperation on… Read More »EU and India reach major free trade agreement in response to global challenge | Finance

Upping green shipping ante: First newbuild vessel to run on Wärtsilä’s ammonia engine

Yanbu green ammonia plant should be financed this year | Ammonia

A green ammonia plant at the Yanbu green hydrogen project in Saudi Arabia is poised to reach a final investment decision this year and start operations in 2030, according to Danish electrolyser firm Topsoe. The company has been appointed ammonia technology licensor by Saudi Arabia-headquartered utility ACWA Power, and it will also deliver engineering, proprietary equipment and catalysts to Sinopec and Tecnicas Reunidas, which have jointly been awarded the front end engineering design contract. Driss Berraho, Executive Vice-President of Business Development for Green Hydrogen at ACWA Power, said the collaboration with Topsoe would convert renewable energy into green hydrogen-based fuels, including green ammonia, at industrial scale. … to continue reading this article and more, please login, register for free, or consider subscribing to gasworld You’ve reached your weekly limit to access free articles! Preview: Mastering oxygen safely at EIGA Winter Summit 2026 | Event previews

In industry as in life, there is perhaps no gas more essential than oxygen. From ultra-pure medical oxygen to the vast volumes consumed by steelmakers and other heavy industries, demand for the molecule remains strong and is expected to grow. That demand, increasingly shaped by tighter quality requirements, energy costs and decarbonisation pressures, places fresh focus on how oxygen is produced, supplied and managed across Europe. These themes will be in sharp focus at the European Industrial Gases Association (EIGA) Winter Summit, taking place on 28 January in Antwerp, Belgium, under the overarching theme of ‘mastering oxygen safely’. The day opens with a welcome and scene-setting from EIGA President Adolf Walth, followed by a short historical reflection on EIGA and oxygen from Secretary General Philippe Cornille. Attention then turns to the present, with a focus… Read More »Preview: Mastering oxygen safely at EIGA Winter Summit 2026 | Event previews

MODEC lays the groundwork for zero carbon FPSOs with partnership set on low-carbon offshore power solution

Repsol approves 100MW green hydrogen plant

Repsol will build a 100MW green hydrogen plant to supply its Bilbao refinery, after securing funds from the country’s recovery and resilience plan. Expected to be operational in 2029, the plant will produce up to 15,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually for primary use at the Petronor refinery in Muskiz, outside of Bilbao. The firm said it could prevent up to 167,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year. The €292m ($346m) project has already secured €160m ($190m) in NextGenerationEU funds from the Spanish Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, after being recognised as a Project of Common European Interest by the European Commission. Despite reducing its planned green hydrogen production plans last year, it will add to Repsol’s large-scale green hydrogen development after installing a 2.5MW electrolyser at the Petronor refinery in 2023. Last September,… Read More »Repsol approves 100MW green hydrogen plant
