UK issues record auction for offshore wind as grid evolves | United Kingdom

The UK government has awarded 8.4GW of contracts under its biggest single auction for offshore wind. It claimed the auction will unlock around £22bn in private investment, supporting around 7,000 jobs. Projects include Dogger Bank South off the coast of Yorkshire, Norfolk Vanguard off East Anglia, Berwick Bank in the North Sea and Awel Y Môr, the first Welsh project to win a contract in more than a decade. Using the levelised cost of energy industry metric, the government said the fixed offshore wind in today’s auction was £90.91 per megawatt hour (MWh) on average, compared with 147 MWh to build and operate a new gas-fired power station.
