Centrica and National Gas add hydrogen to UK grid in test | Hydrogen
UK energy company Centrica and UK gas grid operator National Gas have completed the first hydrogen blend into the UK National Transmission System (NTS). The trial took place last week [9 October] and involved National Gas injecting a 2% blend of green hydrogen into the gas grid, before being blended with natural gas to generate power at Centrica’s Brigg Power Station. The test showed blending is technically and operationally viable as well as the potential of hydrogen to decarbonise energy infrastructure and its role as a back-up energy source.
